Steering and Transmission Defects
Vehicles sometimes do things that drivers don't initiate. There can be a variety of reasons. In cases in which a vehicle loses control, there can be failures of the steering system, tie rods, steering arms, or axles. A defective transmission can cause a vehicle to experience "sudden acceleration" or jump from "park to reverse." Certain suspensions, including Ford Motor Company's "Twin I Beam", used in its first generation Explorer, can "jack", increasing a vehicle's propensity to rollover. The results can be devastating.
The attorneys of The Gomez Law Firm have investigated and handled numerous cases involving steering and transmission defects. We know the designs and how to spot when something has gone wrong. We know the experts and the auto companies. Call or write us today for a free consultation.
Actual "Park to Reverse" Case Handled by The Gomez Law Firm
In this case, our client placed his Grand Cherokee in the "park" position and climbed out of his vehicle. Once he was out, however, the Grand Cherokee popped into reverse, pinning our client against a garage post. We brought suit against Chrysler, claiming that the transmission was defective. After we filed the case, we obtained a confidential settlement on our client's behalf.
Actual Steering System Case Handled by the Gomez Law Firm
In this case, an entire family suffered tragedy when their almost brand-new Suburban lost control and rolled over in Mexico. A son, husband and father was killed and the entire family suffered their own injuries. An examination of the hydraulic steering fluid after the rollover revealed high levels of contaminants. The survivors of the crash reported occasional "lock ups" of the steering and described the driver fighting the steering wheel prior to losing control. It turned out that the Suburban lacked any filter on its hydraulic steering pump, and that General Motors was well familiar with the danger of steering lock ups in its vehicles. The Gomez Law Firm brought suit and obtained a confidential settlement on the family's behalf.
